The white tower where those sentenced to death await execution, connected to Sōkyoku Hill by a long suspended bridge. Rukia is locked there in a cell that drains her spiritual energy.

Ichigo, Ganju and Hanatarō head for the tower from the first day of the invasion. On the way Ichigo runs into Kenpachi, the first opponent truly stronger than him; on the tower's steps Renji uses his Bankai against Byakuya to take Rukia back, and loses.

  1. Ichigo vs RenjiSoul SocietyIchigo and Renji meet again in the Seireitei. Ichigo wins, and the defeated Renji asks him to save Rukia in his place.
  2. Ichigo vs Kenpachi ZarakiSoul SocietyOn the way to the Senzaikyū Ichigo runs into Kenpachi, whom his blows cannot even scratch. Only after a talk with Zangetsu can Ichigo wound him; both end up on the ground.
  3. Renji vs ByakuyaSoul SocietyOn the steps of the Senzaikyū Renji uses his newly achieved Bankai, Hihiō Zabimaru, against his captain to save Rukia. Byakuya defeats him, but acknowledges his resolve.
