The Division of Jūshirō Ukitake, the sickly, kind captain, and of Rukia Kuchiki. Its long-time lieutenant was Kaien Shiba; after the war the command passes to Rukia.
For decades the lieutenant's post stays empty after Kaien's death, and Ukitake keeps it warm for Rukia. In the war against the Wandenreich Ukitake gives his life in the Kamikake rite, releasing Mimihagi, the Soul King's right hand, to keep the Soul Society standing after the King's death.
