The palace of Ōetsu Nimaiya, creator of the Zanpakutō: a humble house on the edge of a cliff. Here Zangetsu is reforged, and Ichigo learns the truth about his own sword and his mother.

Nimaiya refuses to forge the sword until Ichigo knows his own origins: so Ichigo returns to Karakura, where Isshin tells him about Masaki, the Quincy. Back at the Hōōden, Ichigo faces 'old Zangetsu' — in truth his Quincy power wearing the young Yhwach's likeness — and realises that his real Zangetsu is the Hollow. His two new blades are born from it.
