Jūshirō Ukitake
浮竹十四郎
The Thirteenth Division captain, kind and gravely ill in the lungs since forever. Kyōraku's inseparable friend, he is the one who gives Ichigo his Substitute Soul Reaper badge.
As a child he survived tuberculosis only because his parents entrusted him to Mimihagi, the Soul King's right hand, which has lived in his lungs ever since. When Yhwach kills the King, Ukitake performs the Kamikake and becomes Mimihagi's vessel to keep the Soul Society standing: it is his death. The Hell one-shot reveals that his soul ended up in Hell.
