Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto
山本元柳斎重國
The Captain-Commander of the Gotei 13, founder of the Shin'ō Academy, for a thousand years the strongest of the Soul Reapers. His Ryūjin Jakka is the most powerful fire Zanpakutō in existence.
The Gotei 13 was born from him as an army of killers, the first Kenpachi among them, to defend the Soul Society from Yhwach. A thousand years later Yamamoto is an elder with an endless beard who holds the Seireitei together by the sheer weight of his presence. Against Aizen he sacrifices an arm with Hadō #96; against the Wandenreich he finally unleashes Zanka no Tachi, but the opponent he faces is an impostor: the real Yhwach arrives afterwards, steals his Bankai and cuts him in two.

- Ryūjin Jakka (Shikai) · State"Banshō issai kaijin to nase, Ryūjin Jakka" — "Reduce all creation to ash": a sword that turns the field into a sea of flames.
- Zanka no Tachi (Bankai) · StateAll the flames condense into the blade, as hot as the sun: its four techniques, East, West, South and North, would evaporate the Soul Society if they lasted too long.
