Erwin Smith

The thirteenth commander of the Survey Corps, inventor of the long-range scouting formation: he sacrifices everything to discover the truth about the world, and dies leading the charge that lets Levi reach Zeke.

As a boy his father, a teacher, shared with him the suspicion that the history of the Walls was a lie, and was killed for it: it is the wound that drives his whole life. Erwin sets the trap for the Female Titan, unmasks Annie, loses an arm saving Eren and organises the coup against the king. At Shiganshina, with Grisha's basement a few metres away, he gives up his dream and leads the recruits to their deaths: 'Dedicate your hearts.'
