Attack on Titan · Story arc
From You, 2,000 Years Ago
Ymir, a slave of the Fritz tribe, gains the power of the Titans; the Eldian Empire is born and rules the world for 1,700 years, until the 145th king withdraws to Paradis behind three Walls.
It is the story told in pieces throughout the series: Marley's version (Ymir's 'deal with the devil'), the Restorationists' version, and finally the true one, which Eren sees in the Paths in chapter 122. The power splits into nine Titans among Ymir's daughters and their descendants; the Nine Houses fight one another for centuries; Marley wins the Great Titan War with the secret help of the Tybur family and the king himself.
