Luffy sets sail from Foosha chasing the dream Shanks lit, frees Coby from Alvida and recruits his first companion at Shells Town: the swordsman Roronoa Zoro.
Foosha: young Luffy idolises Shanks and the Red-Hair Pirates; he accidentally eats the Gum-Gum Fruit and Shanks loses an arm saving him from a Sea King, entrusting him the straw hat to be returned once he becomes a great pirate. Ten years later Luffy sets sail, escapes another Sea King and reaches Alvida's ship, befriending the timid cabin boy Coby. At Shells Town he exposes the tyranny of Marine captain Morgan and frees the swordsman Roronoa Zoro from the scaffold; Zoro becomes his first companion.

- Coby and Alvida's fallEast BlueSetting off alone, Luffy ends up on the pirate Alvida's ship and befriends the timid cabin boy Coby, who dreams of joining the Marines. Luffy beats Alvida and the two flee toward Shells Town.
